A veteran-owned, award-winning Nashville tour company named its first Community Leadership Scholar: Citadel cadet Gabby Adams, from Middle Tennessee.

I wasn't the best student in the room, and somebody took a chance on me anyway. That is the whole point of this scholarship.”
— Paul Whitten, Founder of Nashville Adventures

NASHVILLE, TN, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Nashville Adventures, the veteran-owned walking-tour company named 2025 Tourism General Manager of the Year for both Nashville and the State of Tennessee, has awarded its first-ever Community Leadership Scholarship to Gabby Adams, a Middle Tennessee native and sophomore at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Adams, 19, was recognized on August 20 at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, joined by her parents.

The Nashville Adventures Community Leadership Scholarship recognizes Tennessee students who lead with character and give back to their communities, rather than those with the highest grades alone. Recipients are named Nashville Adventures Community Leadership Fellows. The company awards one to two each year.

"I wasn't the best student in the room, and somebody took a chance on me anyway. That is the whole point of this scholarship," said Paul Whitten, founder of Nashville Adventures. "Gabby has the character and the drive we look for, and the fact that she is a Middle Tennessee kid wearing the same uniform I wore at The Citadel makes it even better. We are proud to have her as our first Fellow."

For Whitten, the choice was personal. He graduated from The Citadel with majors in history and political science, earned scholarship support after proving himself in the classroom, and used the GI Bill to finish. He built this scholarship to back the kind of student he once was. Adams is studying intelligence studies and serves in Army ROTC, on the same path from The Citadel into the Army that Whitten once walked.
