It's Almost Time! The Great New York State Fair Opens August 26th...

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Get Ready, Everyone! August is here, and that means the spectacular Great New York State Fair is just around the corner. We hope you’ll join us in Syracuse from Wednesday, August 26th, through September 7th, for an unforgettable experience you absolutely won't want to miss!

Once again, OPWDD will be in the Science & Industry Building for the entire duration of the Fair, and we are eagerly anticipating welcoming you and connecting with you. Come learn about the services and supports we offer, explore the many fulfilling career paths we have available throughout the state supporting people with developmental disabilities, and dive deep into our vital mission.  

Building on the phenomenal success of last year's display, we're excited to reintroduce our "Everyone Deserves a Richer Life" exhibit – but this time with a fantastic new twist. This year, we're inviting YOU to share: What's in YOUR richer life bucket? Just as each person's bucket list is unique, so is the vision of a rich life. By sharing your personal goals and aspirations, you'll help us educate the public about our beautiful diversity and the importance of person-centered services.

Similar to last year, the Fair will again offer a sensory-friendly room throughout its run and a Sensory Friendly Day, when many rides on the Midway will operate without lights. At the same time, sounds, music, and public address announcements throughout The Fair will be reduced or limited to accommodate those with sensitivity to sound.
